So much of what is best in us is bound up in our love of family, that it remains the measure of our stability because it measures our sense of loyalty

I know how to make rice and I know that my retainer is coming in this week, and I’m pretty sure I can figure out how to play scramble with friends. But sometimes I make these excuses to call my family because it’s the closest I can get besides a three hour drive.
